Why Heritage Lessons?

Most history resources for homeschool families overlook the role of faith. Important names, dates, and events may be included, but the story of God’s hand in history is often missing or downplayed. Without a biblical perspective, history can feel like a random series of wars, kings, and discoveries — disconnected from God’s great plan of redemption.

At Heritage Lessons, we believe history only makes sense when it is told through the light of God’s Word. Every empire that rose, every reformer who preached, every awakening that swept a nation is part of God’s sovereign work in the world. When our children see this, history comes alive — not just as knowledge, but as faith-building truth.

What Makes Heritage Lessons Different?

We know homeschool families don’t just want history facts — they want resources that build both knowledge and faith. That’s why every Heritage Lesson is designed to be biblical, engaging, and family-friendly.

  • Engaging Stories - History comes alive through child-friendly narratives that read like stories, not dry textbooks. Your children will meet real people like William Tyndale, John Calvin, and George Whitefield — heroes of the faith whose lives point to God’s work in history
  • Every lesson is rooted in Scripture. We connect key events to God’s Word so your children see history not as random events, but as part of His great plan of redemption.
  • We include maps, timelines, copywork, and simple family projects so children can learn with their hands as well as their heads. These activities spark discussion and make learning memorable.
  • Each unit is beautifully designed and easy to print at home. No need to prepare or search for extras — just open, print, and teach.
  • Our reflection questions and devotions are created to draw the whole family into conversation. Parents, teens, and younger kids can all engage together, making history a shared journey of faith.

About us

Rooted in Scripture

God’s Word is the foundation of everything we teach. Each unit connects history to the Bible through carefully chosen verses, devotional reflections, and family discussion questions. We don’t just add a Scripture verse at the end — we show how the Bible explains, interprets, and gives meaning to the events of history.

Reformed Heritage

We stand in the stream of the Reformation, where believers rediscovered the authority of God’s Word and the central truth that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Our lessons highlight the men and women God used — from Wycliffe and Tyndale to Calvin, Knox, and the Puritans — to pass on these truths. By teaching this heritage, we help families see that the faith we hold today was preserved at great cost, and is worth treasuring and passing on to the next generation.

Creationist

We believe that history only makes sense when it begins with God as Creator. Our lessons are built on a six-day, young-earth creationist understanding of Genesis, affirming that God spoke the world into being and directs it by His sovereign hand. By teaching history from this foundation, children learn that humanity is not the product of chance, but of God’s design — and that every chapter of history unfolds within His plan of redemption.

Family Discipleship

We believe parents are the primary teachers of their children, and the home is the first classroom of faith. That’s why our resources are designed to be more than just history lessons — they are tools for family discipleship. Each unit includes reflection questions, Scripture tie-ins, and activities that encourage conversation and worship around the table. We want to help families not only learn about the past, but grow together in love for God and confidence in His truth.

Celebrate 500 Years of the English Bible

Our first unit study is built around the inspiring life of William Tyndale — the man who gave us the Bible in English. With 2026 marking the 500th anniversary of Tyndale’s New Testament, this is the perfect time to share his story with your children. This ready-to-use homeschool lesson includes narrative, Scripture, reflection questions, and a family activity — all in one easy printable.
